Calling on the John

Teleconferencing Manners 101

We’re guessing many of you have a new influx of team webchats and teleconferences. Perhaps, you now have a DAILY conference. Here’s some tips to maintain your professionalism while in PJ’s:

  • Flushing is faux-pas. If nature calls, be sure to mute your microphone.

  • Bedhead is not “in” right now. Shower and put on real clothes before videochats. Don’t have time to shower? Don’t feel like getting out of bed? Choose the call-in option and blame “technical difficulties.”

  • Sign on a few minutes early. Punctuality still matters while we’re at home. Hey, some of us have laundry loads to put in the dryer later.

  • Reduce distractions. While it’s great to reconnect with a coworker’s spouse, try to find a quiet space in your room.

  • Stay alert and awake by having a standing meetings! Put those boxes of toilet paper to use by using them to prop up your computer to eye-level.
