Latest Contagion

guest piece by kaylie wierda

Here at Edify, we feel the need to ensure our contacts are up to date on every aspect of the health of our nation, particularly during these times of uncertainty. It is with this in mind that we wanted to bring to your attention the latest contagion plaguing our nation. As of April 8, in comparison to the 1,475,976 confirmed cases of Covid-19, this particular pandemic has 34 million victims. Yet, where the Covid-19 pandemic wrought social distancing, this particular sickness has the opportunity to bring us together. Ladies and gentlemen, I'm talking about none other than the Netflix sensation, Tiger King.

If you inhibit the ever reducing portion of the population who’ve yet to open themselves up to the experience that is Tiger King, you are missing out on quite the tail. Don’t have a Netflix account? Get your paws on someone else’s. Sink your buns into the couch and your teeth into this 7 episode series following the stories of an Oklahoma tiger zoo owner, Joe Exotic, and his Florida cat sanctuary owning nemesis, Carole Baskin.

This show of few heroes (yet many villains) will have you questioning the standings of your own moral compass as you struggle to lift your jaw from the floor even more with the passing of each episode. We suspect Tiger King’s high infection rate is due both to the abnormal evolution of its main characters as well as the time of outbreak. No amount of soap or sanitizer could clean up the mess that unveils itself as Joe and Carole begin to amass their collections of both tigers and blackmail, and no vaccine could cure you once your obsession takes hold. Symptoms of this disease include increased google searches of “GW Zoo,” purchasing Joe Exotic for President merchandise, and beginning conference calls with “Hey you cool cats and kittens!”

So as you are quarantined within your homes, venturing out only for necessities, the Edify team would like to encourage you to take place in the contagious phenomenon sweeping social media. Take time to reach out to friends as they fall down this rabbithole with you. Comfort each other once you’ve finished all 7 episodes and are left with nothing but questions. Witness for yourself (from the safety of your couch) the rise and fall of none other than… the Tiger King.

This is a satirical piece. Edify does not necessarily condone the crude language or questionable events that take place in the Netflix Limited Series “Tiger King.” That said, a few of our staff have enjoyed watching it. Thoroughly.
